BBE Conversation Club Preview for August 22: Family Matters

On Wednesday, August 22nd at 6 pm we will meet at Authors Bookstore to talk about FAMILY. We will challenge your knowledge on your extended family!

Do you want somewhere to practice English? Do you want to meet people who can improve your English? Come to the Bogota Business English conversatorio (Todos los miércoles en Authors Bookstore, Cll 70 # 5-23. 6-8pm) 

On Wednesday, August 15th at 6 pm we will meet at Authors Bookstore to talk about COOKING & RECIPES. There will be cooking books to see and purchase, English conversation and networking opportunities!

Please watch this quick 5-minute YouTube video about making potato salad. It will teach you COOKING & RECIPE vocabulary. It will also prepare you for the Conversation Club!

Bogota Business English Conversation Club Preview: Manners and Etiquette!

Hello friends! Come and practice your English this Wednesday, August 8th at the Bogota Business English and Authors Bookstore conversation club! It begins at 6pm on Calle 70 #5-23. This week we are going to talk about manners and etiquette.

While we practice English we will enjoy light music, beverages & wine and good friends! Please bring your friends, family and co-workers to improve your English.

Here is a quick look at some of the subjects we will be discussing this week…

  1. Have you ever heard of the term ‘netiquette’? It has to do with manners on the internet and computers, i.e. writing emails, participating in online chats, etc. What do you consider to be proper ‘netiquette’.
  2. Talk about telephone etiquette. Have you ever had a conversation on the phone in English? What are some polite phrases for talking on the phone in English?
  3. Did you know that most Americans and British people find it awkward to give small kisses when greeting someone or saying goodbye? Can you think of some other things that might be different between Colombian etiquette and
  4. What are some common rules of etiquette in Colombia? What do you think is the most important one? Do you have any pet peeves about manners? (What is a pet peeve?!)
  5. Talk about the most annoying person you know! J Do you think they have bad manners? Why/how?

Bogota Business English Conversation Club: Preview for August 1st- Reference Materials!

Hello friends and English learners of Bogota!

Did you know that there is a FREE English conversation club each week in la Zona G? Join us at 6pm on August 1st at Authors Bookstore (Calle 70 #5-23). This is an excellent opportunity to practice your English and meet new people!!

This week we will be talking about REFERENCE MATERIALS: all of the books and guides that you need to learn English! We will have recommendations and suggestions for you to improve your English.

At Bogota Business English, we want to do EVERYTHING to make sure you are learning English effectively! To promote this idea, we will be giving a way a FREE glass of wine to the first 2 people who come prepared with the preparation assignment!!

PREP WORK FOR THE CONVERSATION CLUB: Bring your written answers with you for a FREE GLASS OF WINE!:

1) What is a thesaurus? What function does it serve? Have you ever used a thesaurus?

2) Write out the past, present and future tense conjugations of the verb “To Be”.

3) What is the most effective way to learn English?

Make sure to come early and bring your written answers for a FREE GLASS OF WINE!

Interesting facts about book fairs…

  • The Frankfurt Book Fair was the first book fair to have occurred. The annual book fair in Frankfurt began more than 500 years ago, shortly after Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press. The Frankfurt Book Fair is now considered the largest and most important book fair in the world!
